Helpful Tips for Teen Acne
Man, being a teenager stinks! Mom and Dad always want to know where you are, who you are with, and what you are doing. Your friends and other kids are always trying to get you to do something that you know you shouldn’t do. And to top that all off, you have pimples! Ugly nasty whiteheads that stick out, screaming “here I am look at me”. And those yucky blackheads that look like someone took a ballpoint pen and attacked your face. Ugh!
Exposed Skin Care Treatments
You are not alone; nearly ninety percent of adolescents have some degree of acne. Acne starts to appear as your body starts to experience changes in hormones and it is a part of growing up. We are going to discuss a few things that will help reduce the number of pimples that pop up.
• Eat a healthy diet.
• Drink lots of water. Drinking six to eight glasses of water every day helps the body get rid of toxins.
• Wash your face two times a day, maybe once in the shower, and once after gym class.
• Find a good facial wash that aids in the prevention of acne.
• Avoid excessive washing of the face as this will dry skin out and cause the body to create more oils to combat the dryness.
• Because teenager’s hair can become greasy due to hormones, choose hairstyles that keep hair away from the face and wash hair daily.
• Keep your hands away from your face. Hands carry germs and dirt that can encourage the development of pimples.
• Do NOT pick at or squeeze pimples to get rid of them. This causing scarring.
• Choose a good over the counter acne treatment for the unavoidable pimples.
• If acne is really bad and the above steps do not work, visit with a dermatologist.
• Avoid exposure to the sun. Certain acne treatments make your skin more prone to sunburn. Exposure to the sun or tanning beds also dry out your skin which will tell your body to make more oils and this leads to acne.
• For the guys who shave, choose an electric shaver or safety razor. Always soften facial hair completely with soap and water before putting on the shaving cream and shave lightly. Shave only when it is necessary.
• For the girls who wear cosmetics, choose oil free make-up. Stay away from cream eye shadows and blushes. Make–up that contains oils or that is cream based will clog pores and promote acne.

For teens that suffer from acne, they feel as if they need to hide in a closet until the ugly pimples disappear. Just remember that your friends are going through the same thing. Take some time and talk about it, maybe even make a joke or two. You are not alone.
