The True Path Of Serenity: Yoga Clothes

August 22, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

What’s worse than trying to get into a full lotus when you haven’t stretched in about a week? It is trying to get into a full lotus in a pair of jeans and a button up shirt. In fact, it’s just about impossible to get into the more advanced yoga poses in street clothes—the flexibility of the body must be matched by the flexibility of the clothes.

For both the casual and the veteran yoga practitioner alike, proper apparel is imperative to getting the most out of your yoga experiences. That is not to say that you need to have some “yoga-certified” pieces of clothing in order to be properly decked out. Rather, the propriety of the clothes has to do more with intent than any particular designation.

What is the Intent of Yoga Clothes?

Yoga positions clothes has one primary purpose: to provide comfort to a person in a myriad of positions, being supportive at some times, moving to fit the body, and most of all, adjust to a person’s body. It is these traits that set the intent for clothing, and in a sense designate something as a piece of yoga clothes.

That being said, no particular brand of yoga clothes is better than another, and in fact yoga clothes can actually entail a wide variety of clothing intended for other activities. The main goal is simply to provide a dynamic piece of clothing that changes and adjusts as you do. Barefeetyoga.com has a wide variety of clothing specifically designed for yoga, thus it contains all of these traits.

However, that should not be considered the only option for clothing for your yoga practice. In fact, aerobics pants work very well as yoga pants, as do polyester blend track pants. A variety of other athletic pants and shirts all work well, and the added technology of athletic clothing means you’ll stay dryer as at times your yoga practice can get intense and you will be glad for the added wicking technology.

Essentially, anything will do for yoga asanas clothes as long as it is breathes and moves. But, finding the right clothing for you can be difficult. Barefootyoga.com is a great place to start looking for yoga specific clothing, but Nike, Reebok, Adidas, and essentially any other major sporting good company will always have yoga clothes for purchase, at prices that suit all budgets.

Learn More About Yoga

It’s not always easy finding a yoga class that’s going to suit you. Most people will try more than one form of yoga before they finally hit on the one that’s right for them and their particular reason for wanting to practice it. Some of the styles you may try out are Bikram, Vinyasa, Kundalini and Iyengar - and that’s just a few of the forms of yoga that are currently being taught around the country!

Of course it isn’t all down to the types of yoga on offer as to whether you manage to find something that’s right for you. If you don’t find a teacher that you can work with then it will be difficult to unleash the real power of yoga into your life. Teachers will take different approaches to their philosophy on yoga in general, and that feeds through to the way they teach it to you, and if you don’t subscribe to that particular philosophy then you aren’t going to get the most out of your sessions.

Beyond any doubt yoga classes are very personal, so you need to be happy with your surroundings and the teaching methods of the yoga teacher. No matter what type of yoga you plan to do, take kundalini yoga seriously.

However, not everyone struggles to find a yoga center that’s right for them. Some people attend yoga classes for the physical aspects of it, a place where they can go to exercise and not worry so much about what type of spiritual fulfillment they can get from the experience. In their case the classes may be easier to find because the personal beliefs of the teacher play a much smaller part in the sessions, so they just need to be comfortable with the actual exercises.

On the other hand many will be more interested in the spiritual side of yoga and less into the physical benefits attending the classes will bring. These are the people who will have the hardest time finding a teacher, and yoga method, that will give them what they’re looking for. Teachers, and their teaching styles, vary in each yoga discipline, so what might be the right approach for one student, may be totally wrong for another. Some people like yoga teachers to be more involved in the sessions, whereas others will like a small amount of guidance and then to be left to find the way themselves. Some like a very active session and others like their yoga sessions to be far slower and more relaxed. It’s really a case of finding out what you want from your session.

You may even discover that doing a yoga class isn’t really right for you after all. Some people start out with a fixed idea of what yoga’s all about, only to realize that it isn’t what they expected at all. This may be down to the type of yoga they’ve chosen, or the teacher teaching the class, but either way a lot of people find it isn’t what they were looking for in the first place.

There is one more thing you should understand. This is about what type of yoga is better for you. That is why it will be smart to have some knowledge in any sphere of yoga schools. For example, you can start with short previews about kundalini yoga exercises.

If you don’t really have much in the way of time or patience you may find yoga won’t be your thing; however that’s no reason not to try it in the first place. Find a class that you think will be right for you and give it a try - it may turn out that you’ve got the right yoga class first time of asking.

Looking for an alternative to yoga? How about trying aerobics? It’s never bad to try more if it fits you.

August 20, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

Uggs are now a cultural phenomenon on a global scale. Customers from countries all over the world proudly wear their ugly but comfortable boots that are useful year-round. You can literally wear them to keep cool in the summer months and warmed up in the winter months. Find Uggs on sale at major footwear retail outlets, or possibly at a local store. But don’t wait - when the holiday season arrives, Uggs are next to impossible to locate.

Australians like the outdoor lifestyle, and Aussie surfers and beach lovers have been wearing winter sheepskin footwear for well over forty years on the beach, as a way of keeping their feet warm out of the water. Wondering why Ugg Boots are so popular among surfers when the boots themselves appear to be something you would see used in the snow? The cool thing about Ugg boots is their sheepskin lining. The sheepskin helps keep your feet at the perfect temperature - in the summer or winter time, and Ugg boots are actually intended to be worn without socks so the wearer can gain the full effect of the sheepskin.

With discount Ugg boots becoming very trendy in the USA, it’s important to realize that the company also offers sandals and handbags. While the company produces a wide variety of boots and obviously Ugg boots are popular, there are a wide variety of other products as well. Designed to be durable, Ugg boots last a long time, and many individuals choose these boots for exactly that reason. The boots are also considered to be reasonably priced and affordable for most consumers. Whether you call them Uggs or Australian sheepskin boots, they’re the fashion accessory that you will never grow out of, that you’ll wear more than your trusty faded denim jeans, and that your feet will thank you for.

If you’ve ever heard anyone what that meant, here’s a quick tutorial on one of the hottest fashion trends to hit the USA in the past decade. They’re called “Ugg boots”, and everyone from middle-aged moms to college kids to high school girls to young kids are wearing these questionably fashionable footwear items. In my time as a shoe retail consultant, Ugg boots are possibly the hottest thing to hit the market - challenged only by Dansko shoes in their heyday. Let’s take a closer look at Ugg boots, slippers, and sandals and what they have to offer the uninitiated.

Men and women alike can have cheap uggs, as there is essentially something in the product line for everyone. Until recent times, Australian ugg boots, or “Australian uggs” as they are sometimes endearingly referred to, were one of the world’s best kept secrets, used by those in the know down under. But now, tens of thousands of people around the world have bought uggs, whether it be as Aussie souvenir gifts, fashion statement, or most commonly, for their pure comfort and enjoyment.

Discover Your Real Brain Power

August 17, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

I had my first opportunity to learn meditation as a college freshman when I needed a “filler course” that would not conflict with my Chemistry class I was taking over the summer. My Chemistry professor also taught a Yoga class, and since he was a great guy, very purely spiritual, I also signed up for his Yoga class. Did it help to open the brain power? Let’s find out.

I expected a course in Hatha Yoga exercises.

We did practice the Yoga postures called Asanas during the first hour of each class, but after we were sufficiently relaxed in body by the exercises, it was time to concentrate on relaxing and focusing the mind through learning meditation. It is important to learn meditation from someone who is trustworthy, without an agenda or ulterior motive.

Learning how to meditate looks, at first glance, to be simple and easy. But, quieting, relaxing, and focusing the mind to prepare for meditation can be almost impossibly difficult. The simplest technique that we learned was to sit or lie quietly with eyes closed and “watch” your breath, visualizing it entering and leaving the body through the Third Eye chakra, an energy point that is located on your forehead.

Just sitting quietly in lotus position or lying on a mat and trying to focus on your breathing is an exercise in mental discipline, because you will find that unexpected thoughts will constantly try to intrude into your consciousness and disrupt your concentration and focus. If you are in a class with others, you will have the added potential for distraction created by hearing someone sneeze, giggle, snore, etc. Try to pick a place that is free from noise and external distractions to practice your meditation, especially when you are just learning to meditate. Later on, you will use sounds such as mantras and chants as focal points in your meditation.

The exercise of meditating on the seven chakras in the body is a good practice for beginners. You will learn to see the distinctive colors of each of the seven energy centers with your mind’s eye. Also, when you become adept at chakra meditation, you will have gained an important tool to help you raise your consciousness from an animal gut survival level or a primarily sexual level to levels which encompass the higher chakras of the heart, mind, and soul. And this is your one of your mind tools as well.

Many people use a holy picture of some type as a focal point, or point upon which to focus all of their attention. The traditional Hindu tool is a Mandala, which is a picture made of geometric shapes, and is usually brightly colored. However, a picture of a Christian Saint, or Pagan God or Goddess could also be used. If you are visually challenged, as I am, you can use sounds as a focal point. During natural childbirth, the meditation techniques that I learned were invaluable, and my focal point was simply the sound of me tapping on the bed.

This is a short intro into the real experience, but even it shows that it is definitely worth trying to start increasing brain power. Not for the sake of becoming smarter (which is great), but for the sake of becoming wiser.

The Importance Of Yoga Apparel And Where To Find It

August 12, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

Why is Yoga Apparel so Important?

At first, one might not think that yoga apparel is all that important in regards to practicing yoga, but in fact it truly is. The most important thing about yoga apparel is that it is specifically designed to allow your body to move easily and without discomfort, and this is incredibly important in any type of physical activity, especially in regards to one such as yoga, where flexibility is the main priority.

Yoga apparel does not have to be expensive, and truly, if you simply do not want to spend any money at all, you can basically make your own yoga apparel out of clothes you already have, as long as it is anything that is stretchy or flexible and which allows you to move into any and all positions without making you feel uncomfortable or sore.

Your yoga asanas clothes truly need to be able to allow you to move freely from strains or restrictions, and they need to offer ease of movement and the ability to let your various body parts stretch and twist in different positions and postures. As well, make sure that when you are choosing your yoga clothes that you choose clothing that is made from breathable fabrics, such as organic cotton, as this will also provide maximum comfort and support.

Also, make sure to always remember that no matter how good something looks, if it is not comfortable, then it will not be of any use to you here. There is also nothing more annoying than clothing which loses its shape after you put it in the wash; this is why you should always try to purchase yoga and pranayama wear that is made from organic materials.

Where can I Purchase it?

If you would rather save yourself some effort and don’t mind spending a bit of extra money, you can rest assured in knowing that there are many locations available where you will be able to purchase yoga apparel. Marika, for instance, is one of the most well-known and popular clothing stores which offers yoga wear and accessories, and so this would be an excellent place for you to look first.

Using the Internet as a tool is your best bet, as the speed and efficiency of the Internet allows you to quickly and easily browse through a multitude of options and this will shorten your search process dramatically.

Learning About Meditation And Yoga

August 07, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

The connection between meditation and yoga has long been used by those in Western society for a relaxation technique and as a form of mild exercise. Most of us are probably not aware of the religious significance of meditation and yoga in India and other Asian countries in which it originated. A quick look at the history of yoga will tell us how meditation integrates into it and what it means to a different culture of people. We may find, then, some extra significance to the process and may learn to become a little bit more spiritual along the way.

Yoga, which means “union” in the language of Sanskrit, essentially refers to what is actually a family of spiritual practices that mostly originated in India. In India, it remains as a vivacious tradition for the people and continues to bring them very high power and forms of enlightenment to this day. There are essentially four main types of yoga: Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga. In other parts of the world, yoga has become popular in another form which is known as Hatha Yoga. This is what we come to know as the postures and poses of yoga that are used as stretching techniques.

Basic Information About Meditation And Yoga

Modern yoga practice of today basically involves the use of a few components, at least in terms of religious significance. In terms of our Western forms of meditation and yoga, we mostly use a tape or a DVD of a leader and take instruction on some relaxation techniques. In terms of an actual religious capacity for meditation and yoga, it certainly takes on a different form than we would be used to. This involves a very good guru, which is basically a spiritual leader that leads the activities of meditation and yoga to the followers and integrates some teaching into the process.

In a strict religious sense, there is a goal beyond the overall sense of deep relaxation that many of us in the Western world aim to get from meditation and yoga. Instead, they are seeking a higher level of spiritual enlightenment. In the different branches of yoga mentioned above, there are a variety of essential goals. Yoga can be used to get closer to a deistic figure, for example, or it can be used to being more enlightenment and quiet contemplative thought to the person that is participating.

The Impact And Advantages Of Kundalini Yoga

August 05, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

What is Kundalini Yoga?

There are many different types of yoga positions that are practiced all over the world, and kundalini yoga is one of these types. Basically, kundalini yoga is an ancient form of yoga which has truly only become of popularity in the west as of particularly recently, and which however is continuing to grow in notoriety. In other words, kundalini yoga is a meditative discipline, which comprises of a simple set of techniques which use the mind, senses, and body in order to create a communication between them all.

Kundalini yoga and deep relaxation truly focuses on that of the psycho-spiritual growth of a person and as well it concentrates on the body’s potential for maturation and on the psychic centers of the body in order to generate a particularly spiritual power, which is thus known as the kundalini energy. Basically, as with any other form of yoga, kundalini yoga consists of various different positions, and expressive movements, and focuses on taking all of the movements in slow and gradual steps in order to gain the best results.

If you are wondering what to expect in a typical class of this sort, basically there will be a simple warm up in order to get the body going and to stretch the spine and improve flexibility before any actual positions are attempted, and after this there will be a sequence of poses, and then the cool down session.

Basically, this type of yoga is one of the more spiritual out of all the yoga options, and it in fact goes far beyond that of the physical performance of poses with its emphasis being primarily on that of breathing, meditation, and chanting. If you are not into or interested in the more spiritual forms of yoga, then this option is most likely not for you, but if you are, then you will want to try this excellent opportunity out for yourself.

Regardless however of what type of yoga or meditation you decide on, you need to remember that the most important thing is the factor of yoga in itself; each and every type of yoga still has the same benefits and advantages, although some slightly more and less than others, but the basic premise is still always the same, and that is to incorporate the mind, body, and spirit into one exercise, and to awaken one’s sense of self and to spiritually enlighten that person while doing so.

The Playful Attitude Of Children’s Yoga

July 29, 2008 By: Health and Wellness Category: Yoga No Comments →

Children’s yoga is a great way to get your child to learn some relaxing techniques to help cope with the hard life of being a child in the modern era. It can be stressful, even for kids, to embark on some of the journeys that we put our children through. For this reason, we need to ensure that we let them be kids and that we enable them to be able to express themselves in all sorts of ways that will equip them with skills for later in life. This is vitally important to children’s development and, in turn, will help create healthy and well-adjusted adults for the real world.

It is vitally important to clarify that children’s yoga is not a matter of inflicting a religious policy on a child but is instead a reality of introducing your child to a number of yoga poses and other items that can help them cope with some of the stresses of the modern world. These poses are not religious in nature, once again, but are rather versatile and can be taught to all willing students of children’s yoga in order to help strengthen their mind and their bodies. This type of strengthening is ideal for the world and can help give coping skills and other healthy attitudes towards children.

Learning With Your Child

Another popular option in terms of children’s yoga and deep relaxation is to take the course with the parent. The parents are more than welcome in most classes and, with a small additional fee, can partake in the lesson with their child and can learn a wonderful life skill alongside their child. There is no greater place of learning than one that is comfortable and one that can engage the child to relax and be confident, so inviting the parents may be a great step in the right direction to that end. Of course, the opposite might also be true and the appearance of parents may cause some children to close down.

You need to make sure that you are using children’s yoga and meditation for the good of your child. From this standpoint, children’s yoga will prove to be very beneficial for your child and will help bring out a power in them that you will love to see. They will take charge of their lives, their relationships, and will become enabled to become all that they can be because they are in tune with their bodies and with their minds.
